In February 2021, a former Eagle, Emily Middagh, lost her battle with mental health. With the loss intensely shaking the team, the Eagles have hosted two Mental Health Memorial Games in her honour, raising over $ 25,000. The money was donated to two organizations, Youth One and Companion Paws. Both programs aim to support and provide mental health resources. Youth One is a local organization that provides a safe space for Lethbridge youth, providing mentorship, support, and mental health resources. Companion Paws is an organization that provides dogs with a second chance and individuals with mental health therapy dogs, and in doing so, they matched Middagh with her best friend and support dog, River.
On Saturday, January 27, 2024, the Eagles, in partnership with local businesses, will host the third annual Mental Health Memorial Game to unite the community and continue the vital conversation of mental health and suicide awareness.
Proceeds will contribute to the memorial honouring Middagh and the Eagles athlete’s mental health. Monetary proceeds will be dispersed to Youth One and Companion Paws, and the remaining will be placed into the Eagles Mental Health Fund.
Contributions can be directly made to the Lethbridge Eagles through monetary donations to [email protected] or the 50/50. We thank you in advance for your time and donations and for joining us in contributing to mental health and suicide awareness!
