Since 1968, District 69 Society of Organized Services (SOS) has responded to the needs of local individuals and families. It was founded by three women who were concerned that the needs of local schoolchildren were going unmet and that seniors required assistance in several areas.
Nearly 60 years later, SOS continues to operate as a not-for-profit in Parksville, British Columbia with the support of more than 260 volunteers, 65 staff, and many community partners. SOS offers 20 local programs and services for people of all ages – early learners, children, youth, families, adults, and seniors – that address basic needs, promote healthy living and social connection, and help reduce feelings of isolation.
Local research shows that children are experiencing anxiety and depression earlier than ever, youth are desperately looking for belonging, many parents are stretched thin, and grandparents are stepping in as caregivers. Vulnerable individuals need basic supports to find and maintain housing.
SOS provides free and subsidized community-based social service programs, supports, and services to residents of District 69, including in-house programming, workshops, and special events. Additionally, SOS provides information and referrals to other community services.
Funds raised by our 50/50 raffles will help us move our mission forward by improving community through programming and providing a safety net for our community’s most vulnerable residents living in District 69.
