Team History
The Crusaders joined the AJHL in 1976 as the Edmonton Crusaders moving to Sherwood Park two years later. The second oldest organization next to the Calgary Canucks, the franchise has seen North Division season Championships in 5 seasons.
In remembering the history of the Crusaders it is important to mention the retired jersey of number 11 who was worn by Brett Pearce who suffered a major injury, which left him paralyzed. Also number 10 who was worn by Crusaders captain Trevor Elton who passed away in 1980 from a body check in a game against the St. Albert Saints. In 1996, Crusaders GM and part owner Al McDonald passed away.
Since the Crusaders relocated to Sherwood Park a number of prominent business and sports personalities have been involved with making the franchise successful. In 1998, the club became a registered, non-profit society and therefore it is important to stress why the Crusaders have been in Sherwood Park the past 40 years.
