NCI FM

Native Communications Inc. (NCI) operates within Manitoba as a non-profit public broadcaster. Since becoming incorporated under the laws of Manitoba in 1971, NCI has been committed to serving Indigenous people with relevant radio programming that is inclusive of Indigenous languages and community information.

The NCI-FM radio network currently reaches 95% of Manitoba from Churchill to Winnipeg via 57 FM transmitters. NCI broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. NCI's main studio is located in Winnipeg within the city's industrial area. NCI-FM currently reaches over 130,000 daily listeners and we are the first and only Indigenous radio network of our kind in Manitoba. NCI is accountable to a Board of Directors made up of Indigenous people.

Throughout NCI's long history, we have always strived to meet the fiscal challenges of meeting our annual budget, which is inclusive of staffing and the upkeep and upgrades required for an extensive FM network. NCI receives less than 15% of our annual total budget from available grants and funding agencies. NCI has registered charitable status. Our station is regarded as “The Voice of Indigenous People,” and are a very real part of the Indigenous community – the same as trapping, fishing, and bannock!

50/50 Revenue Goals:

1) NCI is working towards expanding our network in 2025 with three new transmitter sites. Two sites will be located in the southwestern region of the province and another in southeastern Manitoba.

2) NCI is working towards a full-time community reporter who will actively engage with Indigenous organizations, leadership and community voices to share relevant news to Manitoba's Indigenous community.

NCI has endeavored into this 50/50 venture as a way to ensure we can continue the work that we do and to possibly expand the unique service we provide to all Manitobans.

Good Luck and thank you for your support!
