Medicine River Wildlife Centre is a wildlife hospital and education centre located in central Alberta, operating since 1984, and situated on 453 beautiful acres of wetland and boreal forest.

The hospital currently treats more than 2300 injured, orphaned, and compromised wild animals and birds annually, most of which have been affected by human intervention in the environment such as vehicles, power lines, windows, and misinformation.

MRWC also provides education programs in classrooms, onsite, and virtually, believing that knowledge, respect, and connection is the key to preserving nature and the wild animals within.

Employing a Wildlife Conflict Specialist, MRWC responds to over 700 calls each year from members of the public with issues concerning such species as skunks, pigeons, squirrels, and coyotes. The goal of this program is to educate the landowner and resolve the problem in a proactive manner rather than simply removing the offending animal.

Observation of wildlife behaviour was the catalyst to MRWC’s fostering program. The centre has now pioneered the method of placing orphaned wild animals and birds into new and appropriate wild families. This reduces the facility’s costs, puts wildlife back in a wild family to be raised normally, and leaves valuable time for staff to care for the injured and carry out other programs.

This raffle’s proceeds will be focused on the construction of a new and much needed Raptor Flight Compound. It will house 8 cages under one roof, giving everything from the largest Bald and Golden Eagles, to the tiniest Saw-whet Owls and falcons, a place to exercise and recover before release back into the wild.

Covid-19 has put restrictions on some of MRWC’s funding sources, so your support is very much appreciated. Thank you!
