Los Primos On-line 50/50 Raffle
Los Primos is a not-for-profit organization - our mission...
To inspire, support and promote live music, music education and social awareness, in Nova Scotia and Cuba,
through cultural exchange and intergenerational learning.
Since 1997 when the first instruments were collected for donation to Amadeo Roldan Conservatory in Havana,
Cuba, Los Primos has delivered more than 800 instruments to Cuba. We have sponsored 8 cultural exchange trips
for Cuban students to come and perform with our students in Nova Scotia and sponsored 9 trips for music
students from Nova Scotia to experience music and life in Cuba. We have been inspired by these experiences. Now
there are literally thousands of music students here in Nova Scotia who know about Cuban music first hand and
have great respect for Cuban musicians, Cuban music education and the rich culture of Cuba.
Music and music education in Nova Scotia have benefited greatly from our work. During these two decades, we
have helped music programs to raise more than $600,000 for their music projects and supplied instruments to
many local students in need. Clinics, workshops and performances with Canadian and Cuban students and
professionals, playing together… provide learning experiences that last a lifetime!

About our Instrument Campaign
- Our instrument campaign this year is focusing on repairing and shipping the 100%20 instruments and 20
computers which we have already collected for schools in Cuba.

- We are also looking for string instruments to support a new music school for inner city youth in Old
Havana. The Sinfónico Infantil was given a historic building in the old city that the architects wanted to be
used for music. This unique program is operated by volunteer music teachers who are giving these kids an
opportunity to learn music that they would otherwise not have. If you have a violin, viola, or cello (or a
string bass!) that you can donate please contact us www.losprimos.ca [email protected]

This month’s raffle in support of…NSyJo
the Nova Scotia Youth Jazz Orchestra
NSyJo is a big band with strings and vocals. It is 24 of Nova Scotia’s most dedicated young
musician who are working towards a tour of summer music festivals in June/July/August of
2021. During this time of Covid 19 precautions we are recording some videos in studio one
section at a time. Small groups of from 2 to 5 musicians have been recording at Southern
Exposure Studios in Dartmouth to produce our promotional videos as we look forward to
performing again next summer.
