FEATURED CHARITY – CAMROSE KINETTES SILENT SANTA
Camrose Kinettes Silent Santa will receive 20% of ticket sales from this event to replenish inventory and funds depleted by the strong demand for toys, winter accessories, and other personal health items distributed over the last two years.
The Camrose Kinette Club has been a part of our community for over 60 years, stemming from the Kin Canada family. What started as women’s auxiliary club of the Kinsmen, has grown into a mainstay of Camrose, especially during the holiday season.
Leading up to the biggest project, Silent Santa, the club undertakes the annual Countdown to Christmas Toy Drive, watch for it November 25th. Club members spend the day outside collecting toys and cash donations as donors drive by and drop off. While it may be chilly, the excitement and season of giving is evident. This one-day event is the precursor to Silent Santa.
The community plays a huge role in assisting with the holiday project. Many businesses graciously collect gifts in donation boxes in their stores through November and December. New unwrapped gifts for those aged newborn to 17 are collected, sorted and placed into gift hampers according to age and sex. Any age group where the club feels is lacking, members, using the monetary donations, then purchase gifts.
The packing process has also become a highlight for many families who come in assist. Many are overwhelmed by the amount of donations provided through the community. This has become a great teaching tool for families about giving.
Once the hampers are packed, community members then deliver them to homes along with Merry Christmas Food Hampers.

MAJOR PROJECT - THE OPEN DOORS
The Open Doors is excited to have been chosen as the major project recipient for the Chase the Ace Progressive raffle. 20% of ticket sales from every event in the raffle is designated for donation to The Open Doors. The donation will enable maintenance and repairs to the emergency housing facility to accept youth in need.
The Open Doors meets the needs of youth, adults and their families who find themselves at risk by providing shelter, housing, counselling, street outreach and supports for people with FASD.
The Open Doors is a Camrose based charity with a focus on homeless and at-risk youth. The organization is governed by a 7-member board of directors.
The most important focus area is to meet the needs of youth who find themselves at risk. We are excited when youth find and maintain their own housing after leaving our shelter; (currently 72% after 6 months!), find employment (18 shelter clients found employment in the last year!); and/or focus on education. (2 graduated from high school in June!; 2 entered college in September!; 1 started GED courses in Sept.!)
The second most important focus area is to thank the people and organizations that provide donations of time, talent and treasure.
Thank you for making a donation by purchasing a ticket and allowing us to provide shelter and support to Camrose and area youth!
